OK, I’ve heard so much about everyone traveling for free. I’m ready to get started. But which card would be the best for me? That’s not an easy answer because it depends on where you spend the most money and what your goals are for travel. But one of my favorite cards is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. Here are the 5 things to know about this card:
- The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is the card you need to transfer your points to 14 airlines and hotels. When you transfer your points from the Chase to one of their 14 partners, you can get up to 7 cents per point compared to 1 cent in the Chase portal. There are a lot of great Chase cards I recommend but only the CSP allows you to transfer. So you need this card in order to transfer points you earn on other Chase cards to this one so you can then transfer them out to airlines and hotels.
- The Chase Sapphire Preferred card has only a $95 annual fee which becomes $45 when you take advantage of the $50 hotel credit. Chase will give you an annual $50 hotel credit towards hotel reservations booked through the Chase portal.
- One of the reasons I value Chase Ultimate Rewards points so much is they are the only points that transfer to Hyatt. Why does that matter? Hyatt offers the lowest hotel redemption out there. For example- I just booked the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya for 6 nights for 150K points. That might sound like a lot but that includes all of our food and drink (including room service) for 6 nights plus a beautiful oceanview room. Because I’m Globalist, thanks to the Globalist challenge (which I’ll discuss in a later blog) I will get a suite upgrade if one becomes available.
- Book your paid travel in the Chase portal. When (and if) you are booking a paid ticket, you should always book it in the Chase portal because you will get 5X points on travel and 2X points if you don’t book in the portal.
- No Foreign Transaction Fees- These fees can really rack up fast. You always want to use a card that will save you the foreign transaction fees and the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card will do just that.
