Can I Qualify for a Business Credit Card?

If you have a business credit card, you will most likely get more points and miles and, therefore, more free travel. So can you get a business card if you don’t have a “real” business? The overwhelming answer is YES!

If you have any type of business, whether it’s selling on Etsy or Amazon, babysitting, tutoring, or any other way you make money, you have a business and can qualify for a business credit card.

Pros of Business Cards

Here are some of the reasons you will want to get business cards if you want to earn many free points and miles to travel for free.

  • Business credit cards do not count against your 5/24
  • You will earn many more points when you add business cards to your wallet.

Cons of Business Cards

  • Business credit cards often have higher minimum spend requirements so I usually get a business card when we have a big expense coming up.
  • Business cards can be harder to get approved for and the banks may request additional supporting information though I did not have any issues with this.

How can I Qualify for a Business Card

There are so many options when it comes to qualifying for a business card. You don’t need an EIN number or LLC; you can simply use your social security number. Don’t have a business? Now may be the time to start one. Here are some ideas that would count as a business.

  • Pet sitter
  • Uber or Lyft driver
  • MLM consultant
  • Babysitting
  • Etsy or Amazon sales
  • Social Media Influencer
  • Blogger
  • Photographer
  • Tutoring
  • Consultant
  • Selling items on Facebook groups
  • Rental Properties
  • Personal Assistant

Which Business Card Should I Start With?

The Chase Business Cards are the best ones to start with. The Chase INK Cash card and the Chase INK Unlimited card are two of my favorites. Both of these cards have no annual fee which makes them even more valuable.

  • One of my favorite business cards is the Chase INK Cash card. This card offers so many opportunities to earn points which you can then transfer to your Chase Sapphire Preferred card. One of my favorite ways to maximize points with the Cash card is to purchase gift cards at an office supplies store where you can get 5X points on your purchase. Usually 2X per month, office supply stores will have sales on Visa and Mastercard gift cards that eliminate the activation fee. I buy these gift cards and use them anywhere I could otherwise get 2X points. You can also purchase Target, Amazon and many other gift cards to get 5X points on these purchases as well. Before you know it, you will have enough points for that business class flight!
  • The Chase INK Unlimited card offers 2X points on everything so this means you will always earn at least 2X points on your purchases when you don’t have the gift cards.

Other Business Cards I Would Recommend

American Express has some great business options as well though some of these have an annual fee, which can be negated with the benefits these cards offer.

Wrap up

If you are really looking to up your game with points and miles and get more free travel, then business cards should be part of your plan. They have allowed me to get many more points than with just the personal cards which have afforded me more free travel. What will your first business card be?
